About The Show
In this delicious new special, James Beard Award-winning chefs Ming Tsai and Rick Bayless come together to share stories, some of which have never been heard before, cook up recipes that are on their “gotta have it” lists, and dish on the inspiration that brought them into the world of cooking and ultimately led them to be the icons they are today.
While they may seem worlds apart, Ming, the face of East-West cooking, and Bayless, the man credited with making authentic Mexican cuisine accessible to Americans, share much in common. Both have culinary roots in Ohio, where Ming’s family had a takeout restaurant in Dayton, and Rick began his career in 1980 as the executive chef at Lopez y Gonzalez in Cleveland Heights.
Ming’s son, Henry, also joins in the festivities, as they all share childhood recipes they still eat to this day. COOKING WITH LEGENDS also includes a field trip to Chicago’s Lao Peng You, a Chinese restaurant run by brothers Daniel and Eric, where Ming, Rick, and Henry sample and then make dumplings, a local fan favorite. Ming and Rick also pay an after-hours visit to Rick’s acclaimed restaurant, Frontera Grill, where they mix up cocktails and share legendary stories.
During the course of the program, Ming prepares Mezcal Ginger-Rita, Nai Nai's Spring Rolls, Scallion Pancakes, Red Roast Pork and Coconut Rice with Mango Flambé. Rick prepares Easy Cream Cheese Flan, Hickory House Ribs and Everyday Steak Tacos.
